The Decision Matrix is a 2x2 framework that helps you prioritize opportunities based on their impact and effort.
This tool provides clarity and focus by categorizing insights and initiatives from other Flywheel tools. With the Decision Matrix, you’ll confidently prioritize actions that yield the highest value with the least effort—ensuring resources are directed toward impactful growth strategies.
How to use this tool
Gather Insights - Review the outputs from other tools (e.g., Customer Journey Map, Stakeholder Analysis) to compile a list of opportunities, initiatives, or pain points that need to be addressed.
Define Impact and Efffort Criteria - Establish what impact and effort mean for your product and team. For example: Impact could measure customer satisfaction, revenue potential, or strategic importance.
Effort might consider development time, resources needed, or implementation complexity.Plot opportunities on the matrix - Depending on the amount of time you have and the general sense of urgency, you have two options:
Plot all of the insights onto the matrix as a group effort.
Pre-plot them yourself by doing the necessary research in advance.Discuss and negotiate placement - Discuss each of the items on the matrix for feedback and consensus. Use it as a collaborative tool to prioritize effectively and gain alignment.
Prioritize the next steps - Develop an action plan that focuses on high-priority tasks identified in your matrix. Align this plan with your project team’s goals, detailing actionable steps to be taken for each prioritized task.
